Guinness Will Replace Plastic Packaging With Biodegradable Cardboard

Both beer fans and going green fans will be happy to hear about Guinness' announcement to change up their plastic packaging for their beer. They will be investing roughly $21 million to cut how much plastic they use. The new cardboard that they will be using will be 100% recyclable and biodegradable cardboard. The rollout will begin in Ireland this year and should be implemented in other global markets during 2020.

“I am proud to announce this investment, through which we have been able to combine all three,” Cutter added. “We have been working tirelessly to make our packaging more environmentally friendly and I’m thrilled with this outcome for Guinness and our other global beer brands.”

We hope that more companies will get on board with these kind of changes. By committing to using reusable and sustainable materials, they will lead by example. Too often, the pressure is on an individual to do everything they can to reduce their carbon footprint when bigger companies should be asked to participate in greener efforts as well.
